Grilled Peaches with Vegan Garlic and Herb Cheese

If you are looking for a simple delicious appetizer or first course for a meal, this is it! These juicy sweet grilled peaches compliments this savory vegan cheese by Fauxmagerie Zengarry perfectly!

Helpful Tips:

Peaches: when choosing the types of peaches for grilling, it is important that you consider that the peaches are firm, yet ripe enough so when you cut them in half, and remove the pit, it should pop out easily. You want to buy freestone peaches so you don’t run into this problem. The last thing you want is to be struggling to remove the pits and bruising the peaches. The popular varieties that are freestone are Redhaven, Harson, Starfire, Sunhaven, Harrow Beauty, Loring, Redskin, Glowingstar and Harcrest.

Cheese: for this recipe I wanted to try a savory vegan option, and in this case I added the Garlic and Herb Cheese from a Canadian company called Fauxmagerie Zengarry (www.zengarry.com). It has just the right balance of garlic and herb flavour to add to these sweet grilled peaches. If you prefer the diary options, what would work well for this recipe are feta, goat cheese, blue cheese, or a sharp cheddar. If you are able to purchase this vegan option, I highly recommend it!!

Olive oil:  I can’t stress it enough, when purchasing olive oil, always spend a little extra to get good quality olive oil. It should be cold-pressed and the best olive oil are from Italy, Spain, Greece and Turkey.

Balsamic vinegar: the better balsamic vinegar has been aged longer.

Ingredients

  • 4 firm peaches, cut in half good
  • 1 tbsp good quality vegetable oil
  • 4 tbsp vegan garlic and herb cheese
  • drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil

  • fresh basil for garnishing

Instructions

  • Wash peaches, and allow to dry before starting. Cut each peach in half and brush each half with vegetable oil.
  • Heat grill, and place each peach cut side down and grill for about 5 minutes, so there are grill markings on the peaches, and enough time to warm the centers of the peaches to soften and slowly melt the cheese once it is added.
  • Carefully remove the peaches from the grill and place on serving plates, and add the dollops of the garlic and herb cheese, drizzle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garnish with fresh basil.
  • Serve it as first course or as an appetizer.
