This super easy homemade barbecue sauce is rich with a hint of a spiciness, some sweetness and tang that has you making it over and over again! A BBQ perfect sauce to have use on many types of meats.
Homemade Barbecue Sauce:
If you can, I highly recommend making your own homemade barbecue sauce. It’s not difficult, and you know exactly what your ingredients are, without the guessing. Which means less additives and preservatives; as well, the taste is so much better, and it’s fun to experiment!
This sauce has lots of flavour and is a perfect recipe for barbecuing pork, beef and chicken when you want to add that layer of boldness to a dish. It is naturally sweetened with maple syrup. You can make this a head of time, store in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Or if you like to add some of this sauce when you are serving up your meat dish, another option is to use it as a condiment at the table for your guests to add a few dollops to their meat. Either way, it is a delicious sauce with lots of flavour.
BBQ Sauce with Maple Glaze

Recipe Yields: 1/2 cup
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp chili powder
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, add and stir together minced garlic, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, ginger, chili powder and pinch of salt.
- Bring sauce to medium heat, then lower to a simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the flavours are well blended about 10-15 minutes and once the sauce becomes syrupy, remove from heat and set aside.
Making this sauce:
Using a small sauce pan, over low to medium heat, add garlic, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worchestershire sauce, dry mustard, ginger, chili powder and a pinch of salt.
Bring the sauce to a low boil, and stirring occasionally to avoid it burning, and simmer for 15 minutes. Once the sauce starts to become syrupy, remove from the heat and set aside.
You will notice the sauce has darkened and as it sits it will further thicken. It should resemble a barbecue sauce, and then at that point, it is ready to use and enjoy the flavours.
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for 10 days.
