Fall off the Bone Baby Back Ribs with Marinade

I truly am being honest when I say fall off the bone ribs! These ribs are cooked slowly in the oven for 2 hours with the rich and bold marinade that creates juicy and tender ribs, then the finished off on the grill for the last 5-10 minutes. There you have it, a fabulous meal!

Barbecued ribs are one of our favourites to have in the summer months. They can have so much flavour when you add a marinade or a barbecue sauce. Growing up, Mom would only cook them in the oven, and added lots of garlic, and only salt, pepper and paprika. She would baste them as they cooked and they were the best! Maybe it helped that we raised our own pigs, and other animals that made our meats so flavourful.

I have to say this marinade is the best I have made. I love the combination of fresh garlic and ginger added and the substituting the Worcestershire sauce for the coconut nectar/aminos seasoning, which is much healthier option. I would recommend to baste the ribs with the marinade as it cooks in the oven. I have forgotten once to do that and it made a difference in it’s juiciness.

Recipe ingredients:

Baby Back Ribs: I like the baby back ribs over the side ribs, and it is a personal preference; I find the baby back is more tender and meaty but this recipe would be ideal for the side ribs with the added marinade

Seasonings: salt, pepper and paprika are all needed for flavour; paprika adds a smokiness to the ribs

Garlic: is grated for a full pundent flavour

Ginger: is grated as well for the full fresh ginger flavour

Apple cider vinegar: will help to tenderize and a perfect acidity for pork

Coconut nectar/aminos: is a healthier option however you can always substitute Worcestershire sauce

Dijon mustard: bold mustard flavour

Brown sugar: sweetness is needed to balance the acidity in this marinade, however, honey would be wonderful substitute and I will do that the next time I make this recipe

These ribs were so tender, juicy and so flavourful from the marinade that I could barely cut them.

  • 1 1/2 lbs baby back ribs
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3/4 tsp Himalayan salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp smoky paprika
  • 1 large clove garlic, grated (2 medium)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp coconut aminos (can substitute Worcestershire sauce)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp brown sugar

Instructions

  • Rinse the rack of ribs over cold water to remove any pieces of bone or fat. Then pat dry with paper towel. Season with salt, pepper and paprika, use your hand to rub the seasoning in. Place the seasoned ribs into a baking dish or pan coated with olive oil and set aside.
